Richard Watson joins BidX1 to head UK residential auction division
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Watson who has joined the BidX1 team as head of residential auctions in the United Kingdom. He joins BidX1 from Allsop and brings with him 17 years’ sector experience.
Richard will be working alongside industry expert and auctioneer Oliver Childs who joined the team last year as head of commercial auctions. BidX1 is now one of only two auctioneers in the UK with a dedicated commercial and residential department.
Having qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2003, Richard joins us from Allsop where he spent 17 years working within the commercial and residential auction sectors. He is an active member of both the RICS and NAVA Auction Committees which aim to help maintain and improve industry standards. Watson has been appointed to lead the experienced residential division at BidX1, which has approximately 160 years auction experience across the UK and includes the team formerly of Andrews & Robertson.
Richard Watson, BidX1 head of residential auctions, commented: “BidX1 have clear aspirations to be a global market leader in digital auctions and their successful first year in the UK market is testament to this. I look forward to working with the team at BidX1 to help deliver their expansion plans and pioneer change in the way in which property auctions are run within the UK and globally.
“It is not only an exciting opportunity, but it is incredibly rewarding for any individual who is passionate about the industry that they operate in. I welcome the challenge ahead as BidX1 continues to alter the status quo of the auctions industry.”
Stephen McCarthy, BidX1 founder and CEO commented: “At BidX1 we are focused on bringing the best in talent and expertise to our growing team. Both Richard and Oliver have a wealth of experience and an in-depth understanding of our industry-changing business model. At our heart we are a people business, using technology to facilitate and enhance the auction experience for our customers.
“Since we launched in the UK last year the market has had an incredibly positive response to digital auctions and the information it provides, enabling a greater degree of informed decision making for both vendor and purchaser. We have lit a fire under what has for a long time been a traditional and inaccessible part of the real estate industry. As we continue to expand following our success and the recent investment in BidX1 from Pollen Street Capital, we are delighted to launch our UK residential and commercial divisions with the hire of best-in-class individuals.”
After a successful first year of auctions in the United Kingdom where we raised over £73.5 million for our clients, we will be holding regular online auctions throughout 2019. BidX1 offers approximately 280 years combined experience of managing and running auctions throughout the United Kingdom. For more information on digital auctions or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the BidX1 team.
