18th Century Country Estate on Banks of River Suir to be offered via Online Auction

8th June 2023 – Knocklofty House, an 18th century Georgian country house on the banks of the River Suir in Co. Tipperary, has been listed for sale by BidX1, the online auction specialists.

The 100-acre estate in Clonmel was formerly the seat of the Earl of Donoughmore and offers stunning views of the river and surrounding countryside.

Today, the property comprises the main house, which extends to over 22,000 square feet, as well as two Gate Lodges and numerous other buildings including a Gardener’s Cottage, Chauffeur’s Cottage, 8 x Courtyard Houses, 5 x Estate Cottages and 4 x Stable Cottages. Six detached houses, known as Knocklofty Heights, are also included in the sale.

Knocklofty House itself is vacant and will require significant refurbishment and modernisation. One of the houses at Knocklofty Heights is also vacant, while all of the other properties included in the sale are currently tenanted.

BidX1, which specialises in online property sales, has listed the estate with a guide of €1.6 million, a price reflective of the work required to refurbish the historic property.

Gillian Earley, Director at BidX1, said: “This is a rare opportunity to acquire a unique heritage property in a stunning location with significant potential for development, perhaps as a boutique hotel or wedding venue.”

The auction will take place on Wednesday 12th July. Potential purchasers must register in advance and provide a €50,000 bidding security, which is fully refundable for unsuccessful bidders.
