BidX1 sells Cannock Cricket Club for £1.45 million in July digital auction

Cannock Cricket Club sold for £1.45m after record breaking July auction for BidX1 UK

BidX1 UK has raised over £9.7 million in its July auction; it’s second highest achieving sale this year. The online catalogue was viewed by 93 countries in the run up to auction and received a total of 3,150 bids on the day.

One of the most highly anticipated lots on offer was Cannock Cricket and Hockey Club, a freehold multi-sports ground and pavilion located in Cannock, Staffordshire and arranged over approximately 25 acres.  Listed for sale on behalf of James Liddiment and Paul Greenhalgh from Duff & Phelps Ltd acting as fixed charge receivers, bidding for the asset started at £600,000.  After a flurry of activity the property finally sold for £1.45 million, achieving 142% over the guide price with 729 bids placed and smashing BidX1’s record for the highest number of bids received.

Oliver Childs, Head of Commercial Auctions at BidX1 in the UK, commented: “Cannock Cricket & Hockey Club saw an incredible amount of interest from bidders both locally and nationally.  Out of the 729 bids received for the asset, 414 of those were generated using our automated bidding system. Committed sellers achieved strong results and we have seen a particular appetite amongst bidders for value-add opportunities, such as Cannock, both in this catalogue and at previous sales.”

Another notable lot was the outdoor activity centre in Talybont-on-Usk, situated in the heart of the Brecon Beacons and listed on behalf of Newport City Council.  Purchased by an international bidder, the Grade II listed former railway station received 134 bids and sold for 64% over the guide price at £452,000.  Having previously declined an offer on the asset, BidX1’s client listed the property with the digital auction company and secured a considerably higher price at auction.

Other highlights from the sale included:
