Property description

  • When the current owner visited Wolfkloof for the first time more than 33 years ago, he was struck by the abundance of natural vegetation on the farm.
  • The farm is hidden away in a north facing kloof at the end of a gravel road which ends at the farm entrance.
  • More than 65% of Wolfkloof consists of Renosterveld, the most threatened plant community of the Cape Floral Kingdom.
  • Of the original Renosterveld which, unlike its cousin Fynbos, grows in fertile ground, and only 2% remains, of which less than 1% is situated in tracts of land of more than 1 hectare.
  • Its Renosterveld treasure makes Wolfkloof one of the handful of farms in the Bottelary Conservancy which are blessed with a substantial piece of Renosterveld.
  • Improvements
  • After the current owner purchased the farm some 33 years ago, he made a number of improvements, i.e.:
  • During the first 15 or so years he systematically eradicated alien vegetation from the tracts of Renosterveld with the help of Landcare and the Bottelary Conservancy;
  • In 1991 the main dwelling house was renovated and substantially extended with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, study and children's TV room, huge lounge/dining room (with fireplace) and 2 large north facing patios and a 10 x 3m pool, with splendid views down and across the valley;
  • Soon thereafter the cottage was renovated and extended into a cozy 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home for clients, family and friends;
  • In 1995 Wolfkloof was listed with the Stellenbosch Irrigation Board, and receives a very substantial amount of water from Theewaterskloof Dam annually;
  • In 1995 a pack shed of 15m x 30m with offices, ablutions, etc. was built and until 2012 plums were grown and exported to Marks & Spencer in the UK;
  • In 2012 it was decided to become less labour intensive and 6 game fence camps (3 under full surface irrigation) were created with a shelter and currently Sable Antelope are farmed in these camps;
  • In 2015 one hectare of Pinot Noir grapes were planted on a sheltered east facing slope and since 2018 high quality small volume Pinot Noir wine is being produced at a neighboring farm;
  • In addition to the aforegoing there are four workers cottages semi-detached and at the southern tip of the farm a secluded and beautiful dam.
  • Uses:
  • The current use is that of a lifestyle farm, with game farming and a small wine production from its own vineyard. The game could easily be replaced with horses and the shelters could be converted into a number of stables.
  • Potential uses:
  • Wine farm - convert pack shed to cellar and do further plantings. Very high quality terroir;
  • Deciduous or citrus farm - sufficient water for export fruit;
  • Guesthouse etc. - magnificent settings.
  • Security and electricity.
  • Game fence all around the house, workers cottages, garage and car-ports and the pack shed. 10 centrally installed cameras to monitor at night,
  • The main house and cottages have inverters and sun panels and are off the grid.
  • VAT Applicable
  • 10% Deposit as well as a Buyers Commission of 2% plus VAT will be applicable
