Maidstone is the County town and principle commercial and retail centre in south east England, lying 32 miles from London. Maidstone lies on the A20, and alongside the M20 as well as being a short distance from the M2 which access the M25 as well as the Channel Tunnel Terminal and Ferry ports. There are two rail stations with services into London Victoria and London Bridge making the town a popular home for commuters. The town has a population of around 170,000 with mixed employment base, with notable employers including Kent County Council, KEF Speakers as well as providing back offices for many London based professional firms. Tovil lies upon the outskirts of the town centre, and traditional was a centre for the papermaking industry. Today Tovil is still the home to KEF Loudspeakers, and has seen considerable new residential development, offering a range of local facilities including a new Lidl Supermarket. Forest Hill lies off Tovil Hill in an established residential area with new development completed and underway on 2 sides of the site.
